The Book "Night" by Elie Wiesel.
The memoir book "Night" I have read is based on the Holocaust by Elie Wiesel's experience.
Three of those horrific, devastating, and truly depressing events/incidents that I've come across in that book, impacted me emotionally, those poor innocent people.
One of those that I'm deeply saddened to hear is that a lot of bodies got thrown into burning flames of fire, Elie got to witness that as well, which is just depressing. Not just that but other deeply dull, dark, and depressing events/incidents such as Elie's Dad's death and the Death March that happened.. I'm going to talk about now and how those all made me feel, as well as to reflect on Elie's story.
As I was reading through "Night" the first part I came across that erupted my emotions and made me very saddened was when I read that Elie was witnessing a horrific and depressing sight of the bodies of those innocent Jews getting thrown into burning flames of fire, thrown to their death. Elie (the Author) said sorrowfully using the technique of repetition "Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky". This impacted my emotions and left me feeling quite low and unhappy, finding out that Hitler did all of this with his power is truly disgusting and cruel behavior.
Then next, almost near the end of the book. Elie and his father were still alive but fighting to stay alive severely.
All the survivors of the past devastating events/incidents had to go through a death march. Elie was running with his Dad, even though they were literally on the verge of death they were all very skinny and crippled to the point that they almost looked like skeletons. Up came behind him a boy from Poland following beside him his name was Zalman.
As they were running the boy collapsed on the snow behind Elie and began to undo his buttons and yelled: "I can't go on. My stomach is bursting..."
Elie tries to get him back on track.
Zalman: "I can't go on" he groaned.
Elie keeps running ahead, forgetting about Zalman but he knows that he must've been trampled under the feet of thousands of men who followed us.
While I was reading about this event, it hit me, knowing that all those men trying their hardest to stay alive. Just upsets me incredibly and impacts me in a way that I don't want to imagine looking at those officers right in the face, or even getting a glimpse.
Just about near the end of the book, Elie's father begins to feel death coming to him. He came down with a very bad sickness, Elie tried his best to help out to save his father and keep him alive, he kept begging for water over and over again.
Elie knew it was a bad idea but he had no choice now, but to give him water.
One morning, Elie woke up to his father not on his bed bunk, he wasn't on any bed bunk. Elie thought that his father died and that the SS finished him off and killed him. Elie had loads of emotions come at him and hit him. Guilt, relief, and sadness from his own father's death. Elie wants us to remember all those people he knew, who have passed away in such a horrible way. As well as to know that all those people fought to survive and stay alive like being in a dreadful and gruesome war against death.
Reading this part in Elie's book was quite depressing just like the other events in this book. This is awful and devasting to hear that a very loved one that you grew up with and learned from died trying to keep their son alive and his son trying to keep his father alive, through the tough and exhausting challenges.
After reading this book about Elie's Holocaust story. I've felt deeply saddened to hear that loads of those dear, innocent loved ones and friends have died trying to stay alive while fighting for their lives and other loved one's lives whenever they went through a challenge.
To me, every single event that has happened in this has left me steaming with rage. This mass murder should never have happened in life and history, it's truly terrible and cruel to see that these evil people exist in the world. I'm REALLY hoping and praying that this type of event will NEVER happen again.
